India to arrive 12 cheetahs from South Africa in a week

From South Africa, the second shipment of 12 cheetahs will arrive today. According to earlier reports, the first group of 8 Namibian cheetahs under India's Cheetah reintroduction program arrived at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on September 17 of last year. With this, the number of big cats in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park would reach 20.

the second group of big cats to visit Kuno, which was once the home of Asian cheetahs more than a century ago, includes the seven male and five female cheetahs who arrived today.These 12 cheetahs will be transported from South Africa via a C-17 Globemaster Cargo aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force, which touched down at OR Tambo airport on Thursday evening. According to a representative, the flight took off late on Friday.

They will arrive in MP from South Africa around 11 AM today, according to Ramesh Gupta, the state's head of the forest force. Chief Minister Chouhan and Union Minister for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav will thereafter release them in quarantine enclosures.

Indian officials also added that the cheetahs have undergone extensive health check-ups and they are fit to be translocated. The cheetahs that have been selected for translocation are from Phinda Game Reserve in Kwazulu Natal and Rooiberg Game Reserve in Limpopo Province.
