The Udhwa Bird Sanctuary is currently vying for the prized Ramsar Site designation. A huge number of migratory and resident birds are supported by the 565-hectare-sized bird sanctuary. The wetland will undoubtedly benefit from the Ramsar Site tag's conservation and preservation efforts.

According to sources, a wetland investigation during the winter migration season confirmed the presence of approximately 6000 birds in the area. Although the number may not seem impressive when compared to larger wetland regions in India, it is a significant improvement over the 2700 people count from the previous year.

This development can be credited to large-scale initiatives including habitat improvement, educating the local population about wildlife, promoting ecotourism, and striving to end the poaching issue in the region.

The state hopes to earn the distinguished title by focusing on the preservation and conservation of nature as well as the well-being of the surrounding population.

What Ramsar Site is?

In accordance with the Ramsar Convention, a Ramsar Site is a wetland area of worldwide significance. An international agreement from 1971 known as the Ramsar Convention is dedicated to the preservation and prudent management of wetlands.

Ramsar Sites are significant because they promote the prudent and sustainable use of the resources found in wetlands while also protecting the wetlands themselves.
