Hemkund Sahib–Where you get the spiritual bliss

About Hemkund Sahib Tour and Travel Guide

Located in the Himalayas, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a pious pilgrim center visited by innumerable Sikhs each year. Also called the lake of snow, this one is the highly elevated place of the Sikh religion in the globe at an altitude of 4329 m above the level of the sea and you can see the snow-clad mountains. You can come here through the Uttarakhand religious tour packages. The shrine is also referred to as Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib and you can reach it here via trekking by passing through various waterfalls, dense forests as well as splendid glimpses of the Himalayas. The gurudwara provides entry from May and October and faces a shutdown during the very chilly winter months. You can come here through the Uttarakhand tour packages.

As per the 'Bachitra Natak', the work related to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Hemkunt Sahib was the spot in the seven snow peaks where he is said to have done meditation in the past birth. Despite tough terrain as well as an intensely cold climate, innumerable pilgrims reach Hemkund Sahib each year to have a glimpse of the lake and its crystal clear water apart from the divine touch of the Almighty.

HEMKUND SAHIB TREK

Since the Gurudwara is at an elevation of around 15,000 feet above the level of the sea, you can access it from May to October and not in the chilly winter months. There is a motor road to Hemkund Sahib extending from Rishikesh to Srinagar and also from Joshimath to Gobind Ghat. From here, you can move on foot or hire a pony. The track to Gurudwara offers wonderful scenes apart from the fascinating views of snow engulfed mountains with the dense cover of forests as well as rivers. The track to Hemkund Sahib moves to Panch Prayag and once you cross Joshimath, you are on the very old route to Badrinath through Alaknanda. The authorities of the Gurudwara provide food as well as lodging amenities to the pilgrims. The path is tough as well as unpredictable but it is the belief that makes one move. The pilgrim cannot stay here for a long period because of the extreme weather conditions making the descent difficult. Many of the pilgrims want to go to Gobind Dham before sunset. You can come here through the Hemkund sahib trip package.

HISTORY

The Gurudwara site, as described by Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh guru, was untouched for around two centuries or more. The lake here is also called Lokpal which means the giver of life to people. It is also referred to as the terminator of evil. This is the place where Guru Gobind Singh is said to have done meditation in the past. Because of the joint effort of the Sikh Community, a magnificent gurudwara was constructed here by the name Hemkund Sahib. You can come here through the Uttarakhand religious tour package.

DESIGN

Made of white marble, Hemkund Sahib is a structure in the shape of a star on the bank of a mesmerizing lake. A water body at the back of the Ga Gurudwara is the commencing point of Laxman Ganga. Because of the high elevation, the experts kept special considerations in mind when it came to its construction. Initially, a prototype of the structure was crafted out of steel in Delhi and the final assembly was done at Hemkund.
