Martand Sun Temple, an exemplary shrine dedicated to Surya or Sun, is at a distance of more than five miles from Anantnag in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Martand Sun Temple was  built between the 7th and the 8th century. Martand, Sanskrit word, is another name for the Sun God in Hinduism. The temple complex was constructed by Lalitaditya who was the third ruler belonging to the Karkota Dynasty. The structure is made of limestone, and the complete complex has been constructed on top of a plateau close by to Anantnag.  This temple comes under the administration of The Archaeological Survey of India.
