 The special beauty and charm of the Bahu Fort is a contributing factor to the specialty of Jammu. Located  5 km from the central city, the Bahu Fort is exotic and stands on the left bank of the Tawi River. Raja Bahucholan made this splendid fort over 3000 years ago, and it is among the oldest monuments. The Dogra rulers then made some renovations to the fort.

Legend says that the making of Jammu city and that of the Bahu Fort are well connected and are inclusive events. Raja Jambu Lochan, then king of the region, went hunting. During this history-changing trip, the Raja witnessed a curious as well as mind-shattering event- he witnessed a tiger and a goat drinking water by the Tawi River; side by side peacefully, and the tiger did not have the slightest inclination to attack.  He undoubtedly called this divine location and planned to set up his new capital here - a place that displays peaceful coexistence. Later, his brother, Bahu Lochan, constructed the mighty Bahu Fort here.
